Excel wildcard not working. IF statement with a Wildcard not working, workaround? Hi All I need help. May 30, 2025 · Wildcards only work with text, so Excel automatically converts numbers to text when using wildcard patterns. I can't seem to figure this one out. The SUMIF function supports logical operators (>,<,<>,=) and wildcards (*,?) for partial matching. this should have worked the other way around using wildcard.
